Automated vehicles (AVs) could represent the most profound technological change in road transport since the rise of mass production, with reductions in energy demand being one of the many anticipated benefits. This project explores expectations regarding the potential energy-saving benefits of AVs. It will investigate the expectations of different groups about the impact of AVs on passenger and freight transport energy demand using methods designed to understand issues where there is no expert consensus.
