Dr João Alencastro is an Early Career Researcher and Lecturer in Built Environment at the University of Plymouth. In recent years his research has focused on the relationship between project management, quality management and the energy performance of buildings. He has a special interest in the identification of quality defects undermining the achievement of predicted performances and how focused quality management procedures can help to mitigate their occurrences.

In addition to his recent academic role, he has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry as design coordinator and project manager for supplying and contracting companies. He has published 10 academic papers (3 journal papers and 7 conference papers) linking the areas of project management, quality management, energy performance and construction technology.
